We humans are very crafty creatures. We use our stories and excuses as a way of rationalizing our behavior. A perfect example of this is "I'll start my diet tomorrow, after the holidays, or on Monday." This is a lie we tell ourselves so that we can overeat. I would say this sentence has caused more weight gain than any other.
A few other classics are that you have no time, you don't really care, you're too old,or you've failed too many times to bother.
If you want to overcome overeating, you have to get hip to all the lies you feed yourself. See them for what they really are. They're a form of self-sabotage that keeps you safe and stuck in the problem. You cannot move forward until you stop accepting these stories as truth.
Action is the antidote to fear. Begin to feed yourself a story of possibility. Look for and focus on solutions. Begin to implement them in a small way on a daily basis. Focus on one area and one solution until your feel comfortable with that. Then add something more.
Change happens one moment at a time and it happens slowly. Be patient and allow yourself the time and space to implement changes.
