Hi ,
Today is a new day and a new beginning. New beginnings start with forgiveness.
One of the most powerful aspects of what I do with others is my work on self-forgiveness.
As a coach, I meet many people who are stuck in a long term, self-defeating cycle of self-condemnation. This usually involves gaining weight back, or relapsing into old behaviors. The person can't forgive themselves for letting this happen again, so they get down on themselves, which leads to feeling bad, and then back to overeating to soothe the feelings of shame, guilt, and blame.
This vicious cycle keeps them stuck and unable to move forward. Self-forgiveness is the key that sets them free. Self-forgiveness frees up vast amounts of psychic energy. It allows your life energy to flow outward again. When you condemn yourself, your energy is stuck. There is no available energy for movement and growth in your life. Forgiveness cleans the slate and opens the door for
the new to appear.
When people forgive themselves they begin to lighten up on themselves and weight loss becomes much easier because they're no longer at war with themselves.
Self-forgiveness means you welcome yourself back into your own circle of compassion. You welcome yourself home, into the warmth of your own heart. When you can fully embrace yourself, you can embrace the entire world because it changes how you relate to yourself and everything and everyone around you.
Self-forgiveness allows you to fill yourself with your own presence. This allows you to become full. The only way to fill your inner emptiness is to fill it with the love of our own heart. This fullness spills outward and touches everyone you meet. When you have become truly present to yourself, you can then be fully present to others.
Who does your heart beat for? It beats for you. Welcome yourself back into the circle of your own heart.
Exercise: Write out all the judgements you hold about yourself. Afterwards, cross your hands over your heart and repeat this:
"I now release you from all blame, shame, guilt, and regret. You did the best you could with the tools, knowledge, and awareness that you had at the time. I forgive you. I love you. You're free."
Repeat this statement over and over again until you feel a lightness in your heart. Use it anytime you notice yourself in a state of self-recrimination and judgement.
