A big part of the process of change involves learning to re-frame mistakes and failure. Many of us expect ourselves to do things perfectly. We don’t allow ourselves the time to be in the learning curve where it’s only natural to make mistakes and to stumble and fall. Life is also full of ups and downs, so we need to be flexible and go with what life is presenting to us.
What we say to ourselves when we make mistakes or encounter and obstacle can make the difference between success and failure.
If after making a mistake, engaging in self-sabotage, or experiencing a setback, you need to ask yourself some questions.
• What is it that I believe to be true about myself in this situation?
• How is this belief limiting me? What other more empowering belief could I adopt?
• Am I confident I can achieve what I want? If not, why?
• What can I learn from this?
• What would be a better way to respond in this situation?
• What might I say to a friend in the same situation?
• How can I do better next time?
• Are my goals and thinking realistic?
• Am I setting my sights too high or too low?
• How can I reframe this situation so that I can see it in a positive light?
These questions are empowering and lead not to despair but to learning and finding solutions.
