Hi ,

Through pride we are ever deceiving ourselves. But deep down below the surface of the average conscience a still, small voice says to us, something is out of tune.

― C.G. Jung

I have a secret to admit. I love to help people, but I hate to ask for help. I will sometimes struggle with a problem trying to do it all by myself until I’m forced to ask for help. I’m sure many of you can relate.

Most of us are very comfortable in the role of helping others. Yet when it comes to asking for help, it’s another story; our pride can get in the way; we might be afraid of being judged as weak; or we’re afraid we will be seen as stupid.

The truth is everyone needs help now and then and we’re no different. We are all interdependent and we all switch roles from time to time. Sometimes we’re the helper and sometimes we are the one needing help. If none of us needed help, no one would get to play the role of helper.

America has always been the land of the “Do It Yourselfer.” We pride ourselves on our independent natures, and 83% of the people who try to diet each year attempt to do it on their own. Yet only a tiny percentage of those people actually ever succeed.

What does that tell you?

Most of us need help and support in order to be successful at weight loss and emotional eating recovery.  And yet the biggest stumbling block to our success is often our pride.

Pride can block our success in three ways:
  1. It makes us blind to the severity and extent of our problem.
  2. It makes it difficult for us to admit we have a problem.
  3. It makes it hard for us to get the help we truly need and deserve.

A study led by researchers at Duke University Medical Center and published in The Journal of The American Medical Association in March 2008, showed that the people who lost the most weight and successfully kept it off have had regular contact with a weight loss counselor.

If you have repeatedly lost weight and regained it or have failed to lose it in the first place, it may be time to swallow your pride, admit defeat and get some help and learn some new ways of coping with life.

Coaching can make the difference between success and failure. The reason it works is it provides support, sheds light on your blind spots, provides encouragement, structure, and accountability while teaching you some new life skills and coping tools. Many of us when left to our own devices soon lapse back into old unhealthy behaviors.

Coaching helps you to navigate the change process and stay the course so that you can integrate new behaviors that will support you for a lifetime. Clients say this is the best money they have ever spent on themselves, especially after considering the costs of failed diets, special foods, weight loss programs, gyms, etc.
