As I get older, I am much more aware of the interconnectedness, fragility, and
impermanence of life. When I was younger, I took so much for granted, including my youth, looks, and my health. I was also a terrible procrastinator. It’s easy to do when you’re young because you have so many “somedays” ahead of you.
Today, I know that life can change in an instant and I live much more in the now. I try to live as fully as possible, because I know that I’m not promised a long life. Many friends and family are no longer with me; they passed on quite early in life. I’m grateful that I’ve almost made it to 60. To me, getting older isn’t something to bemoan; it’s a real privilege.
The following quote by Richard
Gere sums up my Thanksgiving message to you:
“None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an afterthought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine.Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else.”
Savor your food, eat slowly and mindfully, and stop when full. Eat what you really want. Life is too short to do otherwise.
Happy Thanksgiving!
