Hi ,

The new year is an excellent time to let go of things that no longer serve you. It’s a great time to get organized and get rid of clutter and anything else that’s no longer of use or that’s holding you back. In order to bring in the new, we must create a space for it. It’s also hard to create new habits when reminders of your old ones are all around you.

Personally, I use the first few weeks of January to get myself organized and ready for changes. This makes me feel motivated to move forward.

I love this quote by C. JoyBell C.:

“Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don't have something better.”

Do you realize that by holding on to your overeating, you're not creating the space for something new and better to appear in your life?

Over the years, I’ve had many clients tell me, “I don’t know what I’d do with my time if I wasn’t struggling with a food and weight issue. It’s what I’ve spent most of my adult life doing.”

When your identity becomes “a person who struggles with a food and weight issue,” it can be very hard to let go of it because when you do, it can threaten your sense of self. It also creates a big empty vacuum in your life and nature and humans abhor a vacuum. We instantly want to fill it with something.

How about you? What would you be doing if you weren’t a person who was struggling with food and weight? How would you fill your time? Who might you be? What would your life look like? What would you choose to do differently?
Instead of waiting until you lose weight, is it possible to take baby steps in the direction of these things?

Instead of defining yourself as a person who struggles with a food and weight issue, what if you shifted your definition to a person who is learning how to love and nurture themselves, becoming more in touch with their inner wisdom, and learning to practice better self-care?

This takes the focus off the problem and puts it squarely onto the solution. You get more of what you focus on and you want to stay focused on action and solutions. This can help motivate you and the former can keep you stuck in the problem.

Ask yourself this question each day: What one thing can I do for my health today? And then do it. Everyone can do one thing, no matter how busy. We tend to think we need to make big sweeping changes but it’s the little things done consistently that add up to big changes.

Learn to appreciate the beauty of small steps because that’s what all success is made of.

Here’s to your success in 2017!

Blessings,
