Hi , In order to be successful at long term weight loss it's imperative you change your relationship with food and yourself. If you equate overeating with
happiness, love, comfort, reward, and stress relief, then it will be hard to maintain any weight loss that happens. Unless you find other ways to meet the underlying reasons you turn to food, it will be very easy to fall back on food to meet those needs.
For most people, overeating fills a variety of needs. If you're a naturally compulsive and addictive type personality, if you stop using food, you will often transfer your
compulsiveness into another area. The clinical term for this is transfer addiction. Over the course of my career I have meet many people who got bariatric surgery and then began to drink, gamble, or shop too much. This is the danger of not addressing the compulsiveness itself. At the core of compulsion, there is often a feeling of emptiness that drives people to fill it with
external things. This is often referred to as a "hole in the soul."
If you're plagued by feelings of emptiness, you need to begin to look within for the answers as to what can truly fulfill you. People who suffer from emptiness tend to have a weak sense of self and they rely on externals like validation from other people to bolster that sense of self. If they feel they aren't getting enough attention, acceptance, and validation from others, they will often turn to food or other substances to help regulate their moods and sense of self. This of course creates another problem in the form of unwanted weight gain which furthers weakens their sense of self. When people lose weight they often think that weight loss will bring happiness and it may for a
while. But it's only a temporary type of happiness because who you are hasn't really changed. There's a zen saying, "Wherever you go, there you are." Ultimately, the real happiness you seek is inside of you and isn't dependent on what you weigh. That's why the core of my work has always been to strengthen the sense of self by practicing self-acceptance and
self-compassion. As you learn to embrace all parts of yourself, you begin to experience a sense of wholeness. When you practice inner nourishment, you begin to feel full, instead of the dreaded emptiness. This in turn lessens your dependence on food for fulfillment. If any of this resonates with you, I'd like to invite you to work with me
privately. Now is the time for my summer coaching sale. I will only be accepting 4 clients at this price so don't hesitate. If you feel you're ready to make some long term changes, I'd love to work with you. Reply back to this email and we can begin the interview process to see if you're a good fit for the
coaching process. I
